Can you guess the amount of loss if Deepika Padukone’s Padmavati doesn’t hit the theatres in Rajasthan?
A source told news agency IANS that if Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, doesn’t hit the theatres of Rajasthan that houses almost 300 screens across the state, than they would incur a loss of whopping Rs.5 crore. The Distributors in Rajasthan have chosen to be mum as they themselves have no confirmation of its release in the state due to the controversy on the film’s plot, created by Rajput Karni Sena.
The Rajput outfits are stubborn to stop the film’s release, in case their demands are not fulfilled and of course the distributors do not want to take any risks.
“We will not like to buy the distribution rights of the film till the controversy is resolved,” Raj Bansal, a leading film distributor in Rajasthan, told IANS. “No one would like to be part of controversy. So I would not like to buy the distribution rights,” quoted another distributor.
Rajput Karni Sena revolutionaries are of the opinion that Sanjay Leela Bansali’s film “defames Padmavati by distorting historical facts.” Vishavbandhu Rathore, Pradesh Mahasachiv, Sri Rajput Karni Sena, told IANS: “We are demanding that Mr. Bhansali’s team should screen the movie for historians and intellectuals before releasing it as was promised by them a few months back. We are apprehensive that historical facts have been distorted in the movie.”
Following this, the Karni Sena had announced for a Chittorgarh Band on November 3 and had also planned to organize a rally on November 12 against the film’s release in Gujarat which is scheduled for December 1, 2017.
Padmavati is the story of Rani Padmini, who pulled off jauhar post Allauddin Khilji’s invasion in the fort of Chittor.
Deepika Padukone plays the nominal Padmavati while Ranveer Singh plays the role of Khilji, along with actor Shahid Kapoor who will be seen playing Deepika’s onscreen husband Maharawal Ratan Singh.
