
On Tuesday (07.01.2020) night Actress Deepika Padukone visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) where the president of the students’ union Aishe Ghosh and several students, were injured in an attack by a masked mob on Sunday (05.01.2020).
Deepika was dressed in a black outfit and was seen standing with a group of students during a public meeting. The 34-year-old actress also met JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh but did not address the meeting and also left after an hour.
Actually, she was in Delhi for two days in the promotion of her upcoming film ‘Chhappak’ and before flying to Mumbai, Deepika visited the JNU campus.
News agency IANS reported that Deepika reached the JNU campus to extend harmony towards the students following Sunday’s violence. However, nothing was spoken in this regard by Deepika herself and people close to her.
On January 5, 2020, evening, when the JNU campus was rocked by violence by the entrance of masked mob in the university and attacked the students and professors with sticks and rods and also destroyed the property. More than a dozen students of the university were injured.
People across India have been accusing this violence and several protests showing posters in solidarity with the JNU were being held. This violence resulted in strong reactions from students and opposition party leaders and social media was flooded with hashtags in support of JNU.
The students had demanded strict action against those who resorted to violence on the campus and other protestors. Some of the Bollywood personalities, who are anti-nationalist like Sushant Singh, Swara Bhasker, Dia Mirza, Zoya Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, and Taapsee Pannu along with students had also protested over the JNU incident.
The Delhi Police had filed an FIR against JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others for attacking security guards and vandalizing server room on January 4 (Saturday) after the violence. The JNU administration had filed the complaint and an FIR was registered on January 5, 2020, (Sunday).
