India Vs South Africa 3rd T20I

The match started when India won the toss and decided to bat as they wanted to play out of their comfort zone. The result of India Vs South Africa 3rd T20I was not pleasing as South Africa crushed India by nine wickets. This defeat of India resulted in the series draw because both teams have won one match after the cancellation of the first match in Dharamshala.

In the third match of India vs South Africa T20I, Captain Kohli decided to bat first, and his decision has backfired the Indian Team as they lost the third match. Kohli revealed that he took the risk to try something new, as he wanted to come out of its comfort zone for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli decided to bat first in the India Vs South Africa 3rd T20I! Why?

Apart from this, Virat Kohli also explained, that the miscommunication between two players Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer has led to India’s defeat in India vs South Africa 3rd T20I. As Virat Kohli revealed, there was miscommunication between Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant was about, who will bat on the 4th positions in the third T20I against South Africa in Bangalore.

“Yes, we wanted to go for a big score, exactly why we batted first. In the past, we’ve felt we’ve been 20-30 runs short batting first in T20I cricket which has cost us the game. The idea was to come out of our comfort zone and try to get that big score because we’re batting till No. 9. But we quickly realized the pitch didn’t allow us to do that,” he said.

Kohli also defended his decision to bat first as India is strong in chasing because it’s necessary to come out of the comfort zone and perform well (India Vs South Africa 3rd T20I). This is why the captain decided to take a risk in a ground that is well known for chasing.

Visible Miscommunication in Indian Cricket Team

“I think there was a miscommunication there. That’s what I understood afterward,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

It was visible in an incident where both batsmen Iyer and Pant walked towards the ground when Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket in the eighth over. There was confusion, obviously, but it was not supposed to be so. Finally, Rishabh Pant entered the filed. There have never been such cases but Kohli said, they have decided the no.4 batsman would depend on the number of remaining overs.

“We had planned according to phases. After 10 overs, we decided Rishabh would come in. Before that Shreyas had to walk in. I think both got confused and didn’t realize who has to walk in at which stage. That was a miscommunication there.” Said Virat Kohli.

The incident took place when India lost a significant wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, and both Pant and Iyer went left the dressing room. They then had to discuss with the batting coach as the misunderstanding had to clear. It seems funny to imagine if both of them had entered the ground because they genuinely wanted to bat at the fourth position. We would get to see three batsmen on the pitch. All this happened because of the confusion.

When Kohli was asked if he would blame the bowlers who could not take wickets, he said it’s not about bowlers. India had decided to bat first, and the team did not score well. The bowlers have performed their best.

“I think they’ve done well. Honestly, we didn’t have enough runs on the board. The bowlers are always under pressure knowing one or two overs can take the game away. They’ve done decently well, we have to be a bit more patient with the combination. Obviously we have to strengthen one or two things. As a batting unit, I can tell you that people batting till 9 gives you a lot of confidence, and guys who have the ability to bowl as well. We’re taking the best balance we can at the moment. When the big guns come, Bhuvi and Bumrah will be available, it will be interesting to see who along with them makes the composition of the team,” he said.
