Taking the accountability of the persistent ill-starred performance of Delhi DareDevils, Gautam Gambhir has not only bowed down from the captaincy but has also decided to waive his entire salary of 2.8 crores.
This incident has been marked for the first time in IPL when the captain not only relinquishes from the captaincy but also decides to hold off his salary due to the underperformance of his team.
Gambir has dropped out from the captaincy following their defeat in 5 of the 6 matches held, with the skipper managing to scrape for a petty 85 runs, opening the batting and a half-century in the first match.
“Gautam has decided that he won’t take any salary from the franchise for the season. He will play remaining part of IPL 2018 for the Delhi Daredevils for free,” a source concealed to the progression told PTI while requesting for anonymity.
The source also quoted, “Gautam is someone who puts pride above everything else. He has been a proud performer. He doesn’t want to take any money and it’s a very personal call. In fact, he wanted to quit just after the KXIP game”.
Gautam Gambhir is still a player in this season and will be playing for the entire season. However, his choice for the future will only be known, post the IPL 2018 season.
“I don’t know, it’s too early for me to decide on that. Let me sit down and decide. I have to think where my game goes and I go as an individual,” Gambhir revealed during an interaction with the media.
