It was during their famous 1953, Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay believed in the recognizable material to keep the deadly elements at bay: Nylon- Hilary being inspired from military garments formed a windproof suit of woven cotton and nylon to be worn over the pair of Shetland-wool base layers. Since then, we have improved and invented fabrics for almost every possible weather circumstances on the earth and the moon, and Mars- And we are still exploring with the stuff. Fashion may be periodical but the effort to bring in materials that breathe better, are durable and recycle drives in one direction only i.e. forward.
As per Giulio Bonazzi, the CEO of Aquafi, “The advantage of Nylon is mechanical performance” which delivers a recycled version of the material (future of fabric fashion), Econyl, now making its way into some of the finest wares.” When compared to natural yarns and polyesters, you get more with less”.
Regardless of fiber’s low weight, nylon has a high thermal aversion and great tensile power which makes it perfect for outwear. Burberry has a capsule collection, which includes a monogrammed jacquard car coat, parka and bag pack, evolved around Econyl which grasps fiber from waste materials such as fishing nets, and carpets (over 4 billion pounds of floor covering are disposed of each year into landfills in the US) and reprocess them into a nylon yarn as functional as- and more reprocessbale than – virgin nylon.
Stella McCartney who has promised to discard virgin nylon completely by the year-end also relies on it, as does Parada, which uses Econyl for its Re-nylon lines of bags, inclusive of a handsome men’s duffel in navy.
Hillary and Norway well turn to the advertising experts at the North face, an influential company that developed its latest high tech fabric, Future light, in-house. A nano-spinning process is used to create the material that allows unprecedented levels of breathability in, and this material can be formed to increase or decreased airflow, so it could be customized for freezing weather mountain gear or sea-level running kit.
Scott Melin, the North Face’s global manager of mountain sports declares, “We have been compelled to adapt to our clothing and environment. Now, he says, “finally we are providing clothing that adapts to our requirements”.
With the high fashion world (future of fabric fashion), brands are looking thoughtfully on not just what new fabrics can do but also how to improvise old-age luxury materials. Gisela Draijer, Ecco Leather’s marketing manager says, we desired to create leather that’s paper-thin, which still doesn’t lose the quality of leather and also has strength. As much as thin the leather is, the less long-lasting it is. But the leather integrated with Dyneema found in bulletproof vests and is 15 times stronger than steel, can be utilized in applications which would normally need for thicker hides. Matthew Williams, Alyx Studio designer transmuted the material, FSDX Dyneema, into a handsome, slightly techy anorak in what appears like leather but is an entirely new material, for the brand’s spring 2020 collection. Exactly how a leather jacket is supposed to be felt.
