Shahrukh Khan at International Film Festival: Bollywood’s superstar Shahrukh Khan recently visited Bengal to inaugurate the 25th Kolkata Film Festival. The Function took place at Netaji Indoor Stadium and the star joined his Didi, Mamta Banarjee (the chief minister of Bengal) and his on-screen mother Rakhi from the movie Karan-Arjun.
Amidst the superstar Rakhi Gulzar, CM Mamta Banerjee and Srabonti Chatterjee and the cheering crowd at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, SRK lit the lamp and started the function as he was invited as the chief guest. The function started with Satyajit Ray’s “Goopy Gayen Bagha Bayen.” The classic children film is celebrating its 50th year.
International Film Stars and Celebrities Also Joined the Actor
Apart from SRK, some of the international stars like Germany’s Oscar-winning director Volker Schlongdorff, Andie MacDowell, Dusan Hanak and many more graced the show with their presence. From Bollywood, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Sourav Ganguly (the BCCI President and former cricketer) also attended the ceremony.

SRK described the 25th film festival as an important landmark in his speech. This is what King Khan said in his speech at the 25th Kolkata Film Festival. “The 25th year is an important landmark, an important milestone for cinema not only in Bengal but to the rest of our country because some of the greatest cinema, some of the defining cinema of India comes from Bengal and Kolkata,”

Initially, the organizers had invited the legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan to lit the lamp and commence the film festival. Later, Shahrukh Khan stepped in the grace the sow in Amitabh Bachchan’s presence.
Mamta Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal told everyone that Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to reach but could not due to the health issues. “Amitabhji comes here every time. But he could not turn up. Since last night he is unwell. So doctors have restricted his movements. He is suffering a lot since last night,” Banerjee said.
Schlondorff paid his tribute to legendary film-maker Satyajit Ray and said that his movies had humanity which lacks in many other films. He further appreciated the Indian films and said that these movies never lacked the sensual, visual and other aesthetics. He mentioned, “One day in an art house in Paris we discovered PatherPanchali and the whole Apu trilogy and all of a sudden we discovered that behind the facade of palaces and costumes there was incredible humanity far superior to our intellectual approach in France and Germany at the time of new cinema.”
‘Nobody Takes Serious Speeches Of Movie Stars Seriously’ – Shahrukh Khan at International Film Festival
Shahrukh also shared his views about the International Film Festival of Kolkata. The actor repeated his famous dialogues when the hosts asked him to deliver a speech. He said that he is no one to deliver a speech. He is only a film star and people would not take him seriously if he delivers a speech. He mentioned, “I know, I know, I know nobody takes serious speeches of movie stars seriously. At the end of all, I am just a good looking face. Ya, that’s it,”
