Warning: Spicy Food Invokes Dementia, Study Says

Dementia is a scientific word, which means a decline in mental ability, memory loss and Alzheimer. These problems usually arise from an unhealthy lifestyle and unhealthy food eating habits.

Some of the symptoms of dementia are; forgetfulness, slight headache, inability to tolerate noise, lack of concentration.

Dementia is caused by low-level intelligence, low blood circulation in the body, getting involved in own problems, excessive mental pressure, some injury or disease.

The gist of the 15 years research has claimed that people who often eat lots of spicy food may have a higher risk of dementia. People who consumed more than 50 grams of chili per day had the tendency to lose memory at double the rate. This could also lead to poor cognition.

The study, carried out among 4,582 Chinese adults aged over 55 years showed a faster cognitive decline that consistently ate over 50 grams of chili a day.

The team of researchers, led by Zubin Shi from Qatar University, said people of normal body weight may be more sensitive to chili intake than overweight people, hence the impact on memory and weight. Memory decline was more significant in slim people than overweight people and decline was also observed in slim people but more severe than old people.

In the Journal, Nutrients many studies have been published, that those who ate a lot of chilies had a lower income and body mass index (BMI) and were more physically active compared to non-consumers.

It was also found by Zumin “Chili consumption was found to be beneficial for body weight and blood pressure but adverse effects on cognition among older adults and could lead to dementia.

Researcher Ming Li from the University of South Australia said if we are specifying chili intake it is meant for both fresh and dried chili peppers but not sweet capsicum and black pepper. But, surprisingly “Chili” is one of the most commonly used spices in the world and particularly popular in Asia compared to European countries. In continuation to it Li also said “In certain regions of China, such as Sichuan and Hunan, almost one in three adults consume spicy food every day so directs to high risk of dementia.

But, what exactly chili is doing in our body?  Chili contains the chemical capsaicin, it is the active component in chili which reportedly speeds up metabolism, fat loss and inhibits vascular disorders but still more studies have to be carried out to investigate the association between chili intake and cognitive function.

A man from the United States ate a Carolina Reaper chili as part of a dare in a hot pepper eating contest; he ended up in the emergency room with a thunderclap headache in 2018, a kind of severe dementia.

But it is not so, that it can be generalized, most people might not reach for the extreme versions of this hot spicy vegetable

A large group had undergone study on the relationship between chili and dementia in 2017; found that eating hot red chili peppers was associated with lower mortality risk.

In spite of positive findings in the relationship between chili peppers and dementia but still, no studies had confirmed the depth of attack with respect to dementia in humans and also had not seriously evaluated how these hot vegetables are affecting cognitive decline.

Though, the studies are controversial but why one has to be “chili philic” Go for a simple uncooked natural food for the best results of the healthy and happy living.
