JNU is in news since a long, approximately from November 2019, either with respect to fee hike for university and hostel charges or on the aspect of CAA, etc. Except for studies they are involved in all kinds of irrelevant matters. Now, it has been announced that the regular classes in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will begin from today (13.01.2020).
The severe disturbance took place in JNU, with respect to CAA violence on January 5, 2020, this made the situation tenser with many students leaving for their hometown.
On Friday, JNU vice-chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar, had announced that the administration is making every effort to make sure that students and teachers have favourable environment to pursue their academic activities. During a meeting with deans and chairpersons, it was decided that classes would start from January 13th, 2020.
VC, Kumar had met Human Resource Development Secretary Amit Khare on Friday. The JNU administration has declared this announcement for the students after the record of discussions with MHRD issued on December 11. The Vice-Chancellor said he also informed the ministry that the JNU has written to UGC that it should meet utility and service charges concerning the fee hike.
JNU vice-chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar also said that the decision to hike the hostel fees was not taken in a hurry. Rather, the decision of hostel fee hike was taken by the committee formed in 2016 and after several discussions with the warden, a level said on Sunday (12.01.2020).
Further, he said let us forget about the past and focus on how to make the university function properly and look for the positive future of the students.
The deadline for the coming semester registration process has been extended to January 15, 2020, wherein students can register without late fees announced by the Registrar Pramod Kumar said on Sunday (12.01.2020). Already 4,000 registrations have been done till Sunday evening and to facilitate more registrations, they had decided to extend it.
But still, the students are on protest and JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) is, however, boycotting the registration process due to the academic suspension of several students.
JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh is the whole and sole responsible for spoiling the career of other students. She has been spreading the fake news that the JNU vice-chancellor (VC) first blocked the fee payment portal and then blocked the payment of tuition fees. It is clear he was lying when he said students want to register but are not being allowed by protesters. He has also blocked the registration of 300 students based on false proctor inquiries.
The Registrar had denied the allegations. It was said that they are giving provisional registration for all students.
On Sunday (12.01.2020) night, Congress leaders Subhash Chopra and Shashi Tharoor visited the varsity to speak to students after they were attacked by a masked mob on January 5 leaving 35 injured.
Delhi Police Crime Branch, which is inspecting the case, had identified nine suspects including JNU Students Union (JNUSU) President Aishe Ghosh, on Friday. On Sunday, a woman, who was seen with two masked men involved in January 5 violence, was also identified as a student of a Delhi University college. Officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), who are probing three cases of violence and vandalism on campus between January 3 and 5, said they will serve a notice to the student on Monday (13.01.2020), asking her to join the probe and identify the two masked men, seen with her.
