What made Modi to choose Yogi as Chief Minister for his development model in U.P.
In the recent elections in the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, Bhartiya Janta Party has declared Yogi Adityanath as their new chief minister. It has become a hot controversy that a fanatic hindu leader has been trusted with the responsibility of the inclusive growth in the state which is heavily burdened with law and order problems, Communalism, Poverty, Unemployment, Casteism etc. Speculations are rife about the criteria and main reason for selection of Yogi as the new C.M. by Mr. Modi. Some sections feel that the development model as projected by Mr. Modi would be in peril due to communal forces. It is being said that the footprints of secularism in India are being replaced by those of a Hindu Nation in the making. Though, the Hindutva cry has always dominated the election campaigns of Bhartiya Janta Party, during the past two and half years in the Centre, no discrimination among the citizens based on religion or caste has been seen.
In his campaigns, Yogi Adityanath has always supported Modi’s slogan for the development in Uttar Pradesh, i.e. ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. BJP’s inclination to make Yogi the C.M. of U.P. is deep rooted as Yogi Adityanath had done a lot of hard work in election campaigning. In fact he has been the only candidate to get involved in door to door campaigning in his Gorakhpur region. BJP has projected Yogi Adityanath as a reformer for the sick state of U.P.
The diarchy of Mr. Modi and Shah has played the Hindutva card in the State which has always remained a hot pot of religious politics. However, at the same time two Deputy Chief Ministers have been appointed in the State: Mr. Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya for carrying out the developmental work. Keshav Prasad Maurya who has also worked very hard to ensure victory of the party in the State, has been added as the leader of OBC community in the State. The trilogy will together work towards the development of the State. Further, the track record of Mr. Yogi even, speaks of his being an active leader on the political scenario. Also, BJP feels that he is popular among all the castes equally. Well, the time is near when we will see behind the scene strategy of Mr. Modi. After all, we want development in the State of U.P. that may be brought by Hindutva or by any other Leader.
