Arjan Garh Metro station located on MG Road, has been given an artistic makeover with wild creatures painted all over the walls of the metro station. Pictures of wild animals and birds in the form of jazzy installations were painted to mark the initiative of a new project called Celebration of Nature. The venture is an endeavour of Delhi-based NGO St+art India Foundation as a piece of their Art Stations extend. It is being upheld by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the Singapore High Commission in India, and the Singapore Tourism Board.
Situated on the yellow line of the DMRC, the Arjan Garh metro station is close to the Delhi-Gurgaon highway. The area of Arjan Garh used to be home to many wildlife creatures before urbanization took a toll on the forests. The venture commenced around two weeks back with artists from Mexico and Singapore assuming responsibility of painting the walls around the spectacular theme of birds. “Our effort was to mix urban elements and the birds with the artwork, so that it feels natural.” saidMexican craftsman Senoke, who had been working on the external walls as well.
While colourful birds peep on the external dividers of the station, various wild animals have taken over the inside walls. The walls display the gigantic images of animals such as monkey, peacock, nilgai, and deer. The artist who painted the interiors of the station, Nilesh Kharade, says, “Before the Metro station had been built in this place, it used to be a part of the adjoining forest and these animals called it home. Considering that it’s the natural habitat of these animals, we decided to bring that element into the station through wall art.” Despite of the fact that the venture is not finished, the experts claim that it is now getting amazing reactions from the locals and commuters. Many people stop midway toknow more about the relevance of the art and paintings, while some cannot stop themselves from clicking pictures with the paintings. The coordinators hope that the station will soon transform itself into a picture art gallery, once the project comes to a halt.
