I would start this article with introducing Mr Firdous Jamal because I am sure most of us recently heard his name for the first time when he slammed famous TV and Film actress Mahira Khan whom we all know as “Aashiya” of movie Raees. The former had recently commented on her age in a Pakistani TV Show which has back fired him because people have started critiquing him for his sexist comments.
“Ek toh uski age zyaada hai. Is age mein heroinein nahi hoti, maa ki kirdaar kiye jaate hain”
Though I am a huge fan of Mahira Khan have followed her since I first saw her in Zindagi channel’s superhit show Humsafar, where she played the role of “Khirad” opposite Fawad Khan. But even if I had never known her and heard Jamal’s comment, I would still reacted the same.
“She does not deserve to be a heroine, she is an average model, and her acting skills are not good enough”
It’s all about opinions and yours might differ, but most people are critiquing Jamal for this comment where he not just critiqued her talent, but her age as well. In a Pakistani chat show, he said, she is an over aged actress and she should not play lead roles.
But unlike you Mr. Jamal, she’s a good human being

In India, many people don’t know him, but he is a famous personality in his nation. He has done many Movies and TV Shows, and being a celebrity and influencer such sexist words were not expected from him. Everyone has the right to have an opinion, but he must have thought twice before saying something like this on national television, that too about an actress who has represented her country by doing International projects

After a long wait, Mahira Khan herself has responded to his comments. She has shared a handwritten letter to thank her fans and followers who already slammed Jamal for the comment. Her reply to Jamal has enhanced our respect for her as a true feminist as she has initiated not to respond and focus on her larger goals. The letter reads as:
“As an artist, I am proud of my industry. I’m grateful to my senior artists for paving the way for people like me and so many others. I am also proud of myself. In this journey of mine, I can proudly say that I have done what I thought was right and never succumbed to what others thought was right for me. That – I will continue to do. InshAllah . . . In a world full of hate, let’s choose to love. Let’s be tolerant of other people’s opinions and let our fight be against the mindset -that a successful woman is a scary thought. No, it isn’t. It’s a beautiful and empowering one. Let us stop picking on one another so that this industry and our country thrives like no other.”- Mahira Khan
