The latest technology has made some limitations for the use of Whatsapp on some of the smartphones.

Whatsapp Limitations

WhatsApp has declared some of its limitations and has already withdrawn support from a number of phones from 31st December 2019.

It will be a bad news for those people who are using windows phone, a lot of Windows OS users, will not be able to use the Facebook-owned messaging app after 31 December, 2019, and the app might not be available on the Microsoft Store revealed in the FAQ section of the messaging platform.

WhatsApp has also stated that because they are no longer actively developing any new thing for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time.

It was interesting to know that the withdrawal of the services from Windows phones was declared in the same month when the Microsoft withdrew its support with its Windows 10 Mobile OS. Earlier this month (December 2019), under the “Windows 10 Mobile End of Support: FAQ” section of its site, the software giant announced that Windows “users will no longer receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free.” However, Office apps will continue to receive support until 12th January, 2021. In its blog, Microsoft also recommended that users should shift to either Android or iOS devices to use apps on those operating systems instead.

However, for those windows users who are concerned about their WhatsApp chat history and wanted to secure their chats and information should do it before 31st December as after 31 December, 2019 there is an option to save the chats.

Latest Whatsapp Updates

One can follow the below mentioned process in order to save the chats:

  • One can open the chat wish to export, and tap on the Group Info.
  • Then tap on the ‘Export Chat’. One will then be given the option to download the chat with or without media. Choose the required option and export all the chats.

In addition to Windows OS, there are several Android and iOS phones that may also not be able to run the app as the company will withdraw support for some older mobile platforms from 1st February, 2020.

As per the latest Whatsapp updates information on WhatsApp, frequently asked questions, section, Android phones which are running on Android 2.3.7 operating system and iPhones running on iOS 8 will no longer be in support with WhatsApp from next year 2021.

Moreover, the FAQ section has also emphasized that these older version smart phones of Android and iOS operating systems “could no longer create new accounts, or re-verify existing accounts after February 1, 2020.”

It is also claimed that the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform will keep this whatsapp running for selected phones with KaiOS 2.5.1+ OS, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

In short, the following operating systems will not support WhatsApp from next year 2021:

  • Smart phones with Android versions 2.3.7 and older
  • Mobiles with iOS 8 and older
  • All the phones with Windows OS phones from 31 December, 2019

WhatsApp has also listed the operating systems on which the users can get the support of whatsapp and recommends the users to use the following updated devices:

  • Users should prefer using Android running OS 4.0.3+
  • Users should prefer using iPhone running iOS 9+
  • One can select phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
