Every organization relies on good team members. Effective teamwork in the workplace helps drive the organization to push forward toward success.

Here are 7 great ideas to become an effective team member –

Honest and Straightforward: A good team member is always up front. He or she does not lead others on or play games. One can count on a good team member to tell you what’s what, rather than of whether it is good news or bad news.

Show commitment to the team: Strong team members care about the team, the team’s work and then their work. They show this care every day and commitment up front. They give a good effort, and they want other members to do the same.

Support your colleagues:  A supportive team member gives his colleagues what he can to help them do their best work. This can be emotional support, sharing constructive feedback to help them grow or teaching them something that he/she knows.

Be positive and respectful: A positive attitude makes you a better team member. Respect and feelings of gratitude lift team spirits, create trust and allow space for vulnerability. A culture of positivity is more productive as reflected by increased customer satisfaction and a greater bottom line.

Hold yourself accountable:  Accountability is fundamental to be a great teammate. Do what you say you will do when you say you’re going to do that. Take responsibility for your work and deliver the best quality results before the deadline. If you can’t meet a deadline, at least inform those who are waiting for your work.

Recognize when you are wrong: A good team member will always back off an idea when it clears it’s not the right path. If you believe that your colleagues or your team are making a mistake, find a way to come back to the issue when the time is right.

Confident: People prefer to work with confident teammates. When you have a positive image of your’s in your mind, you’re less inclined to engage in aggressive behavior and gossips.
