The case, in which a Delhi court on Monday prisoned Sengar for the rape of a woman in Unnao in 2017 when she was a minor, got the sentence by the court. It was one of the five related cases that were transferred from Uttar Pradesh to the national capital.

A Delhi district court on Friday (20.12.2019) had announced life imprisonment.  Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, was the convict for kidnapping and raping a woman in Unnao in 2017.  District Judge Dharmesh Sharma had given the announcement.

The court earlier on Monday had found him guilty for rape under the Indian Penal Code and the Pocso Act for the offense by a public servant committing penetrative sexual assault against a child. The survivor of this brutality was a minor when she was assaulted.

He is also asked to pay a fine of Rs 25 lakh to the victim apart from the life sentence.

The CBI earlier sought life imprisonment for the ex-BJP MLA, saying it was a fight for justice of an individual against the system.

CBI’s counsel and the complainant in the case sought maximum punishment for Sengar, saying that the court must consider the prolonged ordeal faced by the victim.

The counsel of the victim also supported the CBI’s submission and additionally sought sufficient monetary compensation for the rape survivor.

Sengar’s counsel, however, advised the court to give him minimum punishment of a 10-years jail term, as he had no previous criminal record.
