PM Modi inaugurates India’s longest bridge in Assam:-

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurated India’s longest bridge on Friday, 26 May 2017. This also marked the three successful years of Governance by BJP led NDA. The bridge also known as the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge is built over river Lohit, a tributary of river Brahmaputra. It has been renamed as Bhupen Hazarika Setu after the late renowned singer of Assamese language.

This bridge connects Dhola in Assam to Sadiya in Arunachal Pradesh which will reduce the travel time between the two states as much as four hours. This bridge is 9.15 Km long which is considered to be India’s Longest Bridge.

The bridge is designed to help the movement of battle tanks and the movement of troops to China border and is capable of bearing the weight of a 60-tonne battle tank. It will reduce the time taken by the armed forces to reach the border which at present is about two days. PM Modi tweeted, “This is one of the most important infrastructure projects in our nation.” This project was started in 2011 and is worth INR 950 crore.

Modi said in a speech, “The bridge will open gates for economic growth in the region and bring an economic revolution. We are confident that Eastern and North- Eastern India have great aptitude to take the nation to new heights.” PM Modi also addressed the public rally. He also inaugurated two other projects and laid the foundation stone for Indian Agricultural Research Institute and All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

India’s Longest Bridge will be maintained by Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways in public private partnership with Navayuga Engineering Company Limited.
