PM Modi to Preside Ganga Council Meet In Kanpur on December 14th, 2019

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh today (14.12.2019), as per PMO he will be reviewing the progress of work done on the aspect of cleaning the Ganga. He will preside over the first meeting of NRPM (National Rejuvenation, Protection, and Management of National Ganga Council (NGC) at the Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology. From there he might declare some important announcements.

The meeting will also be attended by some union ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman, Prakash Javdekar, Hardeep Singh Puri, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are scheduled to attend the meet whereas CMs of three other states – Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal expressed their inability to participate. According to a report, 21 officers of the Central Pollution Control Board will also be present in the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled at 10:30 am at CS Azad University for Agriculture &Technology in Kanpur and is expected to conclude by 2:30 pm.

After the meeting, PM Modi accompanied by Union ministers, and chief ministers of the three states will reach Atal Ghat near Ganga Barrage and planned to sail on the Ganga River to review the changes achieved under Namai Gange in past few years. For this Double Decker, Cruise has been arranged. It is expected that PM Narendra Modi might take a selfie at the newly created selfie point at the complete stoppage of Seesmau nullah which was the largest drain falling in river Ganga. This drain was 128-year old and was a major contributor to pollute the river’s Ganga. UP CM Yogi Adityanath also took his first selfie 2 days back while inspecting the site.

According to reports under the Namami Gange project, 13 out of 16 major drains in Kanpur have been completely cleaned and the sewage and industrial effluent have been diverted.
