If reports are to believed Indian petroleum companies have taken a decision to shut down petrol pumps every Sunday from May 14 onwards.
This decision has been taken by The Consortium of India Petroleum Dealers keeping Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to reduce fuel consumption.
“In accordance with the Prime Minister’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption the CIPD has requested its members to Sunday as holiday from 14 May 2017,”said by the Business Standard A D Sathyanarayan, President, Consortium of India Petroleum Dealers.
Media reports had earlier said that petrol pump owners had threatened and they are expected to protest by marking 10th May as ‘No Purchase Day’
Petrol pump owners are demanding higher dealer commission to which Government has not taken a decision. To stop them from going on strike State-run oil firms had assured higher dealer commission to petrol pump owners in January.
“We had withdrawn the strike threat in January after oil marketing companies assured to revise dealer commission rates. But nothing happened in four months,” a report in the Times of India Ravi Shinde of the Petrol Dealers’ Association as saying.
