Just when you thought the controversy and furore over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat was over, it has got even worse. Rajput women have protested against the release of the movie.
It is less than three days to the release of the film. While Karni Sena refuted SLB’s call to watch the film, over 500 Rajput women, garbed in traditional dresses marched from Jauhar Sthal at Chittorgarh Fort to Jyoti Temple at Jauhar Smriti Sansthan premises on Sunday to register their protest against its release. They waved swords and raised ‘Jai Jauhar, Jai Bhawani’ slogans.
Shatrani Manch will file a petition to commit suicide at the apex court instead of carrying out self-immolation on January 24. Nirmala Rathore, joint secretary Shatrani Manch, reportedly said that they do not want to break the law which is why they have dropped the self-immolation bid and the call to commit ‘jauhar’. The Shatranis are now reportedly exercising their freedom of expression by seeking permission for committing mass suicide.
“Rajputs are law abiding citizens if our honour is respected,” said Nirmala Rathore joint secretary, Shatrani Manch, Chittorgarh.
She said, “The Shatranis do not want to break the law, which is why we have dropped the self-immolation bid and the call to commit Jauhar. As the Supreme Court (SC) has granted permission to release the controversial film on the basis of freedom of expression, the Shatranis are exercising their freedom of expression by seeking permission to commit mass suicide.”
They threatened that the country would go hysterical if the film gets released.
Manch members assembled at the historic Padal Pole and proceeded toward the Jauhar site, singing songs and raising slogans. The group of women raised slogans against Bhansali. The core members held swords while taking the pledge to not allow the release of the film. The Swabhiman Rally was held on Sunday following the SC order that struck down the ban on the film in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Haryana.
