Florence – A place known as bed of flowers of colors

Spread across a total area of 102.41 Kms, Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany. Florence is also called “the Athens of middle ages”. It is the birthplace of Renaissance. This beautiful city is known for its monuments and breathtaking beauty.

It does total justification to the phrase “bed of flowers of colors”. The peak travel time is mid-June to mid -September. Summer here is hot, spring and fall are temperate and it’s usually cold from December to March.  The place is famous for its mesmerising beauty.

 

Famous sights of this city include Galleria dell’Accademia’– The gallery of the academy of France is the home of Michelangelo’s David. It is one of the most attractive sculpture in the gallery. The work started in 1501 and was completed and revealed in 1504. It is a 5.17 meter long statue of a man standing nude. It represents a biblical hero, Davi,ld, favoured by the art of Florence.

The separate gallery called the Uffizi is an art gallery in Florence. It contains a number of prominent work of the Italian Renaissance. Florence Cathedral is the main church of Florence. It was built in the Gothic architectural style by Arnolfo di Cambio. It’s also called The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, Il Duomo di Firenze.

Another marvel, the Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence. It follows the Renaissance architectural style and is also designed by Arnolfo di Cambio. It’s beautiful monument that serves as a palace and the seat of local government.

Ponte Vecchio– It is a medival themed arch building built over the Arno river. It was opened in 1345 and was architectured by TaddeoGaddiand Neri di Fioravante. It is noted for having shops alongside.
