Shuttle Queen: Sindhu wins Indian Open, becomes World’s No.2

P V Sindhu, the Indian badminton queen has avenged her loss in the Rio Olympics by defeating Carolina Marin in the Indian Open finals. Her marvelous performance in the straight sets 21-19, 21-16 helped her emerge victorious in the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi. Sindhu with her vigorous smashes led by 6-1 before Marin could gain any point on her. Carolina Marin is a Spanish player who defeated Sindhu in Rio Olympics due to which Sindhu had to content herself with Silver Medal only. Everyone in the sports complex watched her stellar performance.

 Till date about nine encounters have happened between these two wizards of badminton, however, Marin leads with about five wins in her share. Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is the first woman who reached the Olympic finals. Sindhu being the third seed and the world no. 5 against the top seed and world no. 5 played in a commendable way. The win made her richer by $24000. The win made her reach at the world’s second best place in Badminton. Her father is an Arjuna Awardee and both the parents are volleyball players. Though Sindhu was very much influenced by the game of Pulaila Gopichand and thus decided to learn Badminton. She started playing the game at the age of eight.

The Indian ace shuttler has registered her name in the history of sports with her recent achievements in the badminton game. Her determination to withstand the Spaniard opponent led him win the competition. Kudos to Sindhu and we are eagerly waiting for more such events to come in future.
