Happy Birthday Kajol: The Filmfare Best Actress Award winner actress Kajol Devgn turns 45 on 5th August. She is one of the most successful and respected actresses of India. She made her debut in Bollywood at the age of seventeen with her first film Bekhudi (1992) along with Kamal Sadanah and her mother Tanuja. Her first film was a flop on box office but, noticing her talent, Abbas Mustan signed her for Baazigar and that was her first big break. The film was released in 1993 starring Shah Rukh Khan alongside Kajol and both became the lead actors of A-list. The duo’s chemistry was loved by the audience and they were titled ‘superhit Jodi’ on screen.
Kajol was first nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award in 1994 after her film Dillagi which starred Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar along with her.
Mrs. Devgn began dating her present husband back in 1994 after the film Gunda raj and married him on 24th February 1999. She worked with Ajay Devgn in movies like Raju Chacha (2000), Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha (1998) and U, Me Aur Hum (2008). Though their fans called Kajol and Ajay an ‘unlikely pair’ but Ajay Devgn described their relationship “We never resorted to the usual ‘I Love you’ routine. A proposal never happened. We grew with each other. Marriage was never discussed, but it was always imminent”.
The star of blockbuster films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Baazigar and Dil wale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kajol, left her film career after marriage for her domestic life. She made a comeback with Dilwale (2015) reuniting her with SRK after the 2010s My Name Is Khan. Kajolbelongs to a filmy background parented by producer-director Shomu Mukherjee and mother Tanuja who worked in Mere JeevanSathi and Yaarana. The story doesn’t end here. Her paternal grandfather was singer-actor Kishore Kumar and her maternal aunt, Nutan, was one of the famous actresses of her time. She also has cousins like famous actor MohnishBehl and director Ayan Mukerji.
The list of top movies includes Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997), Dushman (1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001). DDLJ was Aditya Chopra’s film which changed the entire scenario of Bollywood films. Even after 20 years, the film still runs in Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai.
Her first film with Salman Khan was released in 1998 named Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya which was again a super hit of the year. She played the role of Salman Khan’s love interest and Arbaaz Khan’s sister.
Kajol’s film with hubby Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha was a remake of Hollywood film French Kiss. However, she was lead to the path of Filmfare Best Actress Award for the second time by Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch HotaHai.
Apart from her film career, she is also advocating a soap brand’s ‘Help a Child Reach 5’ campaign and walks the ramp for several social welfare organizations. As an honor, she unveiled her wax statue at Madame Tussauds Singapore in 2018.
