Bollywood Update: One of India’s top actresses Deepika Padukone has earned a lot of respect for herself after suffering depression a few years ago. She is not only known for her acting skills but also her strong will power. Fighting with herself, she emerged out as a very strong individual in an industry that is highly competitive and judgemental.

Recently, in an interview with Vogue, she said “The word that best describes my experience of depression is a struggle. Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time. People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star said recently that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice.”

Looks like the 33-year-old actress got offended and pointed towards Salman Khan’s statement in which he mentioned the Deepika Padukone depression as a luxury.

“I see a lot of people going on vacation, but I cannot afford that luxury of taking a vacation. I see a lot of people getting depressed and emotional, but I can’t afford that luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional because no matter what I am going through, it works against me.” Said Salman Khan which seems not only to hurt sentiments of Deepika Padukone but other patients suffering from the same illness.

As well aware of the struggle with self is the toughest, Deepika Padukone further added about having never regretted her decision of entering Bollywood “Not at all. I felt such relief afterward. It was liberating like a crushing weight had been lifted off me. I’d do it all over again. Also, it made me more aware of myself”

She went on to praise her parents saying that it doesn’t matter what people think of her. Already being from a Bollywood background, there have been talks such as Deepika Padukone being blessed but she doesn’t care about anything other than her parents. She says “They are honest and elegant and dignified and authentic”, adding “They ground me”

Currently, she is in London shooting with her husband Ranveer Singh for her upcoming film ‘83′. Deepika Padukone will be seen in the character of Romi Dev, former Indian cricket player Kapil Dev’s wife, while her husband will be playing Kapil Dev’s role. The film is based on the 1983 World Cup highlighting the journey of the team to bring home India’s first cricket World Cup. Apart from this, Deepika Padukone is also working on another project named Chhapaak which is based on the real-life story of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor. Directed under Meghna Gulzar, Deepika will play the role of Malti.
