Teachers are the torch bearers of our society, thus, a genuine pay hike!

According to the recent news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the teachers and the staff working in schools, colleges, universities, and institutions run by the central and the state government would be presented with almost 22-28% pay hike, as the result of the pay revision of the 7th pay commission.

It will be applicable from 1st January 2018.

The Human Resource Minister, Prakash Javadekar also declared that the pay hike would be between Rs.10, 000 to Rs.50, 000 at various levels!

He also said: “We want education to improve, to attract good people to the profession… This is not a gift; this is justice for those who are already serving.”

This decision is believed to benefit almost 7.58 lakh teachers and academic staff in almost 106 universities/institutions funded by University Grants Commission (UGC) or ministry of Human Resource Development, 329 universities, funded by the state government and 12, 912 government and private-aided colleges, affiliated to state-public universities and 119 teachers of centrally funded technical institutions like IITs, IIMs, IITs, NITIE, IISs, IISERs.

The government constituted a pay review committee last year, which was headed by VS Chauhan. They submitted their uniform proposition earlier this year. Hence, the HRD Minister formed the committee to review these propositions.

A good step indeed!
