At last after a long anti and pro protests for CAA which had run for weeks of protests by thousands of citizens and students across India, the Centre has now issued a gazette notification on Friday (10.01.2019) night announcing that the provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act (new citizenship law in India) came into effect from January 10, 2020.

The Citizenship Amendment Act will be granting justice to individuals who are Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Jain, or Parsi and have entered India from Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Afghanistan by the cut-off date of December 31, 2014.

This is being implemented in the middle of the confusion that has engulfed India, after the two houses of parliament passed the controversial Act in mid-December, the Narendra Modi government has continued to emphasize that no Indian citizen needs to worry about this law – despite the fact that the Act itself is in destruction of the constitution as it singles out one religious community when it is implemented alongside the National Register of Citizens.

But the three opposition ruled states – West Bengal, Punjab, and Kerala – have said that they will not implement the new citizenship law in India.

The protests got boosted when the Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police stormed into universities to control students’ agitations. The use of violence against students had been widely criticized.

From civil servants to actors, other civil society members, and eminent personalities, there has been no shortage of voices speaking up against the Act and demanding justice for the violence being carried out against protesting students and in Uttar Pradesh. It was also said that only the BJP-ruled states used violent means to suppress the protests which were widely criticized.

Anyhow now many refugees and sufferers will be getting justice and they are happy with the decision and paying thanks to the Modi government.
