Chandrayaan 2 successfully launched : India’s first lander mission to the Moon was launched today (22nd July 2019). India has a made history by launching Chandrayaan-2. It was launched from Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota today. It is a three-stage rocket GSLV-MkIII-M1 launch vehicle, our baahubali, took off at its appointed time of 2.43 pm and effectively injected Chandrayaan-2 into Earth’s orbit, where it will be spending 23 days.
Lander and rover modules of the spacecraft of the Chandrayan 2 will make a soft-landing on the moon’s surface 48 days from today, approximately on September 7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described this occasion as an “extraordinary moment that will be engraved in the records of history.”
After some technical error last week i.e. on 15th July, today i.e. on 22nd July it is launched successfully. Scientists at ISRO wanted to have the perfect launch of Chandrayaan-2, making it necessary that all operations in the run-up to lift-off are conducted with extreme precision. Finally it was done by them.
Chandrayaan-2, in comparison to Chandrayaan-1, consists of three modules — an Orbiter, Lander and Rover. All the three are specific in their working. The Orbiter will be 100 kilometres away from the moon and will revolve around it. The Lander will carry the Rover module to the surface of the Moon. As soon as the Lander on soft-landing touches its feet on the moon, the Rover will detach itself. Slowly Rover will crawl on the surface of moon to record observations and collect data.
The module Lander is named ‘Vikram’, after Vikram Sarabhai. The Rover, named after wisdom called ‘Pragyaan’. It is a six-wheeled solar-powered vehicle will play the role of a scientist and an Engineer. The visit of Rover has been scheduled for 23 days to record all the necessary data by ISRO Scientists. Say, on 7th September it will be landing on moon and after that it will stay there for 23 days. Rover’s investigations will be over by 30th September 2019.
