In our Indian scenario, very often Baraat comes late to wedding pandals this has become somewhat a kind of tradition. Baraatis most likely think they are from the groom side, so have to keep their ego high and if they will reach on time then it will reflect their presence to be inferior with respect to the bride’s family, somewhat like “naak kat jaygi”.
But none would have expected that this could ever prove to be counterproductive for one groom and his baraat.
Recently a groom of Bijnor faced the anger of the bride’s family for reaching late to the wedding venue on his own wedding. He along with other baraatis was supposedly locked up in a room and beaten up by the bride’s family, who also snatched away their valuables.
Looking to this the bride refused to marry the ‘late’ groom on Saturday and married a local youth from her neighbourhood instead.
The couple had tied a knot at a mass wedding programme six weeks ago and was supposed to get married in a ‘proper ceremony’, according to police sources,. The bride stayed with her parents after the first wedding as the couple decided to get married again with ‘proper rituals’.
Times of India said, after the first wedding, differences grew between the families over dowry which became worse when the baraat that was scheduled to reach at 2 pm, reached late in the night. The police had interfered to get the baraatis released.
The groom’s family were demanding through the bride’s family for cash and bike and allegedly threatened them with harsh consequences if their demands were not met.
The groom’s family alleged that they were taken in a room, imprisoned them beaten by the bride’s family and relatives, they also snatched the jewellery that they had reportedly brought for the bride”.
Both the families had approached the police, of Haldaur station house officer Kanta Prashad. Initially, they fired allegations against each other. And then finally, they reached to the point of compromise. But, now the bride was not prepared and was not Ready to go with the groom.
The bride later then married another youth from the same village to which she belonged.
It is the time to give up dowries if the families stop giving into dowry demands and start keeping the lives and wills of their daughters in front of the society, the cases of domestic abuse and harassment will largely reduce.
