A massive heart-wrenching fire broke through a factory in the Anaj Mandi area of north Delhi on Sunday morning (08.12.2019), leaving more than 43 people dead and many others injured said by police. The death toll might climb as many of the injured have suffered serious injuries.
The Anaj Mandi blaze which had ended up the lives of 43 people is considered to be the second most severe fire in the national capital after the Uphaar Cinema disaster that declared 59 lives and left more than 100 injured.
Around 62 people were taken out by fire tenders from the building that caught fire in the early hours on Sunday and took seconds to give it a shape of a massive tragedy. So far, 43 dead have been confirmed by the Lok Nayak Hospital and 9 by the Lady Harding Hospital confirmed by police.
In the meantime, bodies of the departed soul have been moved to the mortuary.
The fire has been completely dripped by the fire brigade teams and all the persons have been brought out from the site.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, the exact cause of death will be commented only after post-mortem.
The Delhi Police on the same day had detained Rehan, the owner of the building where a fire broke out earlier on Sunday. This case got registered under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code against the owner.
In addition to Rehan, the police had also arrested his manager Furkan in correlation with the noxious blaze.
According to witnessed officials, the building did not have fire clearance from Delhi Fire Service or any other safety tools. Also, the factory was operating in a residential area. Rehan has been charged with causing death due to negligence.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also visited the fire broke location, grieved the entire tragedy and said though all the lives cannot be brought back but can help families with the compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to those who lost their lives in the tragic incident and Rs 1 lakh to those who got injured.
The Delhi government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and wanted a report within seven days.
Manoj Tiwari, also visited the tragedy site and gave his condolences to the departed souls and also announced the compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of each victim and Rs 25,000 for the treatment of injured people, on behalf of the BJP. The party had also canceled all its programs on the day in view of the tragedy.
It was remarkable to know that a Delhi Fire Service employee was a “real hero” for saving the lives of 11 people in the Anaj Mandi area on Sunday. AAP minister Satyendar Jain revealed that a fireman Rajesh Shukla was the first to enter the paper factory which caught fire in the residential area. He deserves a great applaud for his bravery for saving the lives of several people in spite of suffering burn injuries.
The NDRF team that entered the building said it was filled with hazardous carbon monoxide. Most of the workers of the illegal manufacturing units that ran in the four-story building died due to suffocation. They claimed for carbon monoxide (CO), due to the burning of the materials present in the building, and the room had only a single space for ventilation. The entire third and fourth floor of the building was surrounded by smoke.
The content of CO was more due to which the people could not breathe said by Aditya Pratap Singh, deputy commander, NDRF.
The blame game has now started over the tragic fire incident in Delhi among the politicians. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had blamed BJP, as they are looking into the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that it was McD’s duty to shut the factory that was running illegally at a house, and then it was the responsibility of Municipal Corporation of Delhi to shut down these illegal factories. The question was raised how did MCD allow the factory to run over there? Delhi Fire Service has clarified that they had not given an objection certificate to the factory.
