Maharashtra Flood: In a previous post, I shared and enlisted all the accidents that were caused by the heavy rain in Mumbai. I also mentioned the
2004 flood and all of us were if the history would repeat itself. The fear has come true as Maharashtrian people are actually struggling for their lives. The continuous rain has ended up in an emergency situation as more than 2 Lakh people have evacuated from their own homes and landed on safer places. What is more depressing than evacuation, is that 27 people have been declared as dead due to Maharashtra Flood, and a large number of people are still missing.
Impact of Maharashtra Flood on People
“27 people died due to floods in 5 districts of the Pune division in Maharashtra. More than 2 lakh people have been evacuated to safe places till now from 3 districts including Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara,” Statement by DC of Pune Division. The above data only counts the people who dead till August 8, 2019. But the number is increasing along with time.
The situation is deteriorating, and amidst such dreadful conditions, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released the latest statement about the upcoming dangers. IMD was the department that warned the state people for the heavy rains and their guess was correct. Now they have claimed that the Rain would continue to fall in Konkan and central Maharashtra for the next few days.
Maharashtra Govt. Rescue Plans
Presently the govt. has deployed 22 rescue teams in the concerned areas of Maharashtra including Kolhapur, Pune, Sangli, and Satara. The team consists of 5 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 14 teams of Indian Navy, one of Coastguard, One of Army, and one of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Presently the govt. has deployed rescue teams in the concerned areas of Maharashtra including Kolhapur, Pune, Sangli, and Satara.
The Kolhapur team consists of 5 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 14 teams of Indian Navy, one of Coastguard, One of Army, and one of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

In Sangli, however, 11 rescue teams are working including 8 of NDRA, 2 of Coastguard, and one of the Indian Army. Even these teams are not enough as the state govt. has asked for five more NDRA teams to rescue the public.
The govt. is taking necessary actions and the chief minister Fadnavis has requested Kerala minister to allow them to discharge dam water to reduce the water level. Everyone is willing to do their best and control the situation, but all these efforts seem to fail as the rain is not planning to stop and drenches all the efforts.
