After the bombshell announcement, last week by Prince Harry and Meghan of stepping down from their roles as senior members of the royal family, a highly unusual meeting was called out. The meeting of senior royals concluded with the announcement of “period of transition” for Harry and Meghan. Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II has agreed that the couple could split their time between the UK and Canada.

After the meeting, which was joined by Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry, the queen said that though they all wanted the couple to “remain full-time working members of the royal family” but they “respect and understand” the couple’s “wish to live a more independent life“.

The conclusion derived from the ‘Sandringham Summit’ was announced in the official statement of the queen. It said, “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family,”

In terms of the financial issues, the queen told that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not desire any public funds. She said, “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

The statement has been recorded as a favorable outcome for Harry and Meghan who wish to set up a second home in North America after accepting their semi-independent role in the royal family.

After the Sussex crisis, there has been a rift between the two brothers and since then the couple has desired to be financially independent. Though Prince William has expressed his “sadness” over the rift saying, “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore; we’re separate entities” but the division of their joint charitable foundation says it all.
