The friendly bond between the two countries US and India is growing day by day and the entire credit goes to our honourable PM, Modi.  India has been trying its level best to enrich it with Air defence weapons in order to save the country from any kind of threats.  A big deal between the two countries was going on and now it is opened by US government that it has approved the sale of an Integrated Air Defence Weapon System to India for an estimated cost of $1.9 billion. These weapons will help in modernising its armed forces and also would help in expanding its existing air defence planning to counter threats posed by air attacks.

The Defence Security Cooperation Agency said on Monday (10.02.2020) that the Trump Administration has informed the US Congress about their determination to sell the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) to India. The entire Air Defence Weapon System is estimated to cost $1.867 billion, the State Department has told the Congress in a notification.

This deal of sale by the US is somewhere coming amidst the massive military modernisation by China which is also planning its military strength in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.

It is also seen that a possible visit by President Donald Trump to India will be very soon, later this month, which comes ahead of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon.

According to sources in New Delhi, Trump most probably will be visiting India on a two-day trip between February 23 and 26 and the preparation on both sides are in the process for things to go all well even at the level of smallest fine-tuning. It is said that India and the US are set to fasten a trade deal during Trump’s planned visit to India.

This planned sale of Integrated Air Defence Weapons will strengthen India’s military goal to update its capability while further increasing its greater interoperability power between the two countries India and the US and other allies said by the State Department.

Air Defence Weapon in India

According to the notification released by India, had requested to the US to buy an Integrated Air Defence Weapon.

The request was for:

  • Five AN/MPQ-64Fl Sentinel radar systems.
  • One hundred eighteen AMRAAM AIM-120C-7/C-8 missiles.
  • Three AMRAAM Guidance Sections.
  • Four AMRAAM Control Sections.
  • One hundred thirty-four Stinger FIM-92L missiles.
  • Thirty-two M4A1 rifles.
  • 40,320, M855 5.56mm cartridges.
  • Fire Distribution Centres (FDC).
  • Handheld Remote Terminals;
  • Electrical Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Sensor Systems.
  • AMRAAM Non-Developmental Item-Airborne Instrumentation Units (NDI­AIU).
  • Multi-spectral Targeting System-Model A (MTS-A).
  • Canister Launchers (CN).
  • High Mobility Launchers (HML).
  • Dual Mount Stinger (DMS) Air Defence Systems.
  • Vehicle Mounted Stinger Rapid Ranger Air Defence Systems.

The notification said this proposed sale between US and India will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to strengthen the US-Indian strategic relationship and to progress the security of a major defensive partner, which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia region.
