The official sources said on Saturday (15.02.2020) that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has booked former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal under the controversial Public Safety Act, Faesal, who was under imprisonment after abolition of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, was booked under the PSA on Friday (14.02.2020) night.

Initially the former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah for security purposes were also booked under the PSA on February (06.02 2020) night, just before a few hours before their preventive detention was to end.

Threat to the Security of the State

The PSA (Public Safety Act) has two kinds of safety sections one is ‘public order’ and the second is ‘threat to the security of the state’. The ‘public order’ allows detention without trial for six months and the “threat to the security of the state” for two years.

Faesal, a former IAS officer was stopped from taking a flight to Istanbul at the Delhi airport during the prevailing night of August 13 and 14, 2019, last year and was asked to go back to Srinagar, where he was locked up.

Faesal, a bureaucrat from Jammu and Kashmir had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement party after resigning from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
