Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that women don’t have to go through the cumbersome process to change their names on their passports after marriage. It means they can retain their maiden names.
Narendra Modi wants to focus on the development of women empowerment in India. He also said that the Government is working on different models like Ujjwala scheme, Mudra scheme and many others to empower women.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement at the gathering of Golden Jubilee event of the Indian Merchant Chamber’s Ladies Wing over Video Conferencing.
On completing 50 Golden years he expressed his heartiest congratulations to the IMC Ladies Wing, stating that:
Those who have forwarded the legacy of IMC in the last 50 years, deserve our gratitude. With the rise of Women’s economic status, the decision-making responsibilities has also gone up. Indian women are shining everywhere and Wherever women have got the right opportunities, they have made a mark and have gone two steps ahead of the men.
Prime Minister addressed lots of schemes in which Government is focusing on women eccentric schemes. Government extended maternity leaves from 12 weeks to 26 weeks, Modi said. 2 crore women has already benefitted from free cooking gas distribution under Ujjwala scheme.
The Prime Minister added that, “When women have money, they feel empowered.” Amul and Lijjat papad are the best examples of what women can do if they are empowered.
