Major Change In Indian Cricket Jersey

The Indian cricket team will have a new sponsor from 5th September. Back in the day, Sahara Group was the sponsor for a long period of time after which Nokia started sponsoring the Indian Cricket team. Currently, the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, Oppo, sponsors the Indian cricket team. It has been confirmed that Indian education app, Byju’s will be the new sponsor of the Men in Blue.

In March of 2017, Oppo signed a 5-year contract with BCCI. Byju’s is an online learning application headquartered in Bangalore. Oppo will hand over the rights to Byju’s soon this year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday that the deal will begin from 5th September 2019 and will come to an end on 31st March 2022.

Chief Executive of BCCI, Rahul Johri released a statement thanking Oppo for their partnership with Indian Cricket jersey. Also, he congratulated Byju’s for starting its tenure with Indian Cricket. Rahul Johri also said that BCCI and Byju’s have similar missions and this partnership will prove key in taking forward Indian Cricket.

All associated sponsor rights held by Oppo Mobiles India Private Limited will be taken over by Byju’s. Boys will get their new Indian Cricket jersey with Byju’s printed on it before they start their domestic series with South Africa. Byju Raveendran, the founder and CEO of Byju’s released a statement where he said that Byju’s is honored to be a part of the Indian cricket team. He also added that Indian’s treat cricket like a religion and they are truly excited to become a major part of the Indian Cricket Team which everyone loves and supports so much.

Byju Raveendran truly understands the importance of sports in the development of a child. He added – Cricketing heroes like MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar have inspired millions to follow their hearts and Byju’s desire is to make children excited about learning new things.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India set the reserve price at INR 538 crore in 2017. Oppo offered INR 1079 crores which are almost double the reserve price. Vivo’s bid stood in 2017 stood at INR 768 crore. BBK Electronics Corp is the parent company of Oppo and Vivo.

Oppo also released a statement thanking BCCI and Team India. Oppo became one of the most recognized smartphone brands in India for just within 5 years. Oppo as a company is 6 years old now and India remains one of the major markets for the brand. Oppo also added that it is working hard to deliver the customers a premium smartphone experience at a relatively cheaper price point.

Oppo signed a 5 year deal with BCCI in 2017 which was going to end in 2022. The deal entitled Oppo with the right to call itself the official team sponsor and the freedom to display its logo anywhere on the Indian Cricket jersey of players of men’s team, women’s team, under – 19 team, and men’s A team.

Oppo and Byju’s have signed a tripartite agreement with BCCI which puts the board in a safe spot as it will not lose any money. Byju’s will have to pay exactly what Oppo was paying.
