England vs. Australia – ICC Champions Trophy Preview, Clash of the rivals

England is politically divided after the results of the general results recently but the whole country can stand united when they take on their old rivals Australia in this crucial match today of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 of group A in Edgbaston. If there’s one thing that unites people, it’s the feeling of defeating the old enemy. England has looked their absolute best in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in the two matches that they played. They are easily the best team of the tournament so far.

On the other hand Australia was wayward against New Zealand (who are knocked out) and looked good against Bangladesh but both the matches were abandoned due to rain. It’s a great chance for England to win their first global cricket tournament if they knock out Australia. If one of South Africa or India bow out of the tournament, their chances of winning ICC Champions Trophy 2017 are doubled.

Captain Eoin Morgan and assistant coach Paul Farbrace, have stressed about this important clash in the interviews. In the batting department, England has the edge but it’s the bowling department that the Australia has the upper hand. The match will largely be decided between how well the English batsmen play the seam bowlers of Australia. The Edgbaston pitch will certainly help the pace bowlers of Australia, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood.

Both the teams met on the same venue in the Champions Trophy 2013. England won the match comfortably going to the final which they lost to India. But the overall record of the English against Australia in one day tournaments is poor. They have won just 4 out of the 11 matches.

The venue doesn’t help England’s cause too as they have lost 3 out of the 5 matches they have played here recently. But they will be heavily backed by the crowd in Edgbaston. Whatever happens politically in England is will remain the same but this contest will be a thrilling one to watch.

The weather forecast expects that the rain is not scheduled until early morning so the game will not be interrupted. South Africa and Pakistan played here on Wednesday so the pitch will be a fresh one. the pitch will be good for batting as it will generate plenty of bounce and pace, a sight delightful for the batsmen. England captain Eoin Morgan will use the same team that played against New Zealand. Australia are also likely to remain unchanged. The rivalry between the two sides should give us an enthralling contest to watch.
