Next Indian Coach: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been trying several modifications in the cricket team since India lost the semi-final of ICC World Cup 2019. Replacing major players was one of them. Now, it’s time to select a new Head Coach. Yes! Interviews for the new Indian Coach are going on in the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai.

The CAC has organized the interview process to select the Next Indian Coach as the contract with Ravi Shastri has expired. Five more candidates were appearing for the same post apart from Ravi, who can re-appear for the same post.

The Cricket Board had shortlisted six eminent personalities for the same post, and all of them were appear today for the interview either in person or on skype. The BCCI had assigned a three-member committee as the selectors and asked them to continue with the interview process. The three members Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is being led by the former Indian Cricketer Kapil Dev.

The latest news confirms that the West Indies opener has backed off from the race. Today, the former West Indies player officially informed the BBCI that he will not appear for the post of New Indian Coach, and cleared the pitch for the remaining five candidates.

List of candidates shortlisted for the post of New Indian Coach

Ravi Shastri – He is the current coach for Indian Men’s Cricket Team, and has remained a commentator for a long time. He was an exceptional cricketer and has contributed a lot to the Indian National Cricket Team. He was an all-rounder batsman and was elected the Champion of Champions in Australia. He also has remained the team director for a long time, but was appointed the head coach in 2017 by the same CAC we are talking about today.

Lal Chand Rajput – Lal Chand Sitaram Rajput used to play for India, but later became the head coach of Zimbabwe National Team. He was a batsman in Indian Team and has also remained the manager of Indian National Team. He has also trained Afghanistan Team as a coach for one year. Apart from these, he was also an administrative member in the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Mike Hesson – Full name Michael James Hesson is the former New Zealand Cricketer, and has been the head coach of New Zealand Cricket Team along with Argentina, Kenya, and Otago, where he remained the, coached these teams for domestic cricket. He could have remained the New Zealand head coach till now if he had not resigned from the post in 2018. Before this, he had also resigned from the position of Kenya’s Coach. If we talk about his selection chances as the Next Indian Coach, his constant resignations and the controversy with Ross Taylor might create an issue for him.

Robin Singh – He is a former Indian Cricketer, and has played for the nation between 1989 -2001. He played as an all-rounder and represented the nation in a test series and 136 One Day International (ODI) matches. Also, he has remained the coach of the winning team of Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians. He has also coached Deccan Chargers in the very first year of IPL along. The fact that he played calmly under pressure might add to his points when it comes to his selection chances.

Thomas Masson Moody – He is commonly known as Tom Moody, and is an Australian coach and former commentator, and International Cricketer. Presently, he is the coach of SunrisersHyderad in IPL.  He has once coached the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League for three years. Recently, he applied for the post of Next Indian Coach, and will today appear for his interview on Skype, where Kapil Dev led CAC will select one candidate from the list of shortlisted applicants.

Phil Simmons – As I told you above, Phil Simmons has backed out from the interviews that are taking place in Maharashtra. He has, by the way, played in international cricketer as an all-rounder and had remained the Trinidadian Cricket Coach.

Who will Select the Next Head Coach of India?

The BCCI general manager last month approached new members to take charge of the Cricket Advisory Committee, and to organize the interviews for the Next Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team Men’s, and all the three members Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and ShanthaRangaswamy.  All of these are present at the BCCI Headquarters as the selection process for the same in going on. The same committee will next select the selectors for the Indian National Team once they announce the chief coach.

Robin Singh was the first one to appear in front of the panel, and positively replied to media by saying he is confidant. The back out of Phil Simmons had increased their winning chances and all they have to do is to submit their presentations about the future of Indian cricket as per what they can do for the team, and how do they plan to continue with the current team.

Announcement of the Next Indian Coach

The selection process for the next head coach of Indian cricket team is underway. While a few candidates have submitted their presentations, others are ready for their turn. The Committee is to announce the final result at 7:00 PM today, but looking at the selection process, which has still not ended, we fear that the committee might some more time before making the final announcement.
