Legendary actor Dilip Kumar celebrates his 97th birthday on December 11, 2019, and the actor paid his gratitude on his Twitter handle to thank his fans and loved ones for all the wishes they had sent to him on his special day. Dilip Kumar shared a beautiful picture, wrote that he is overwhelmed with all the greetings and calls he has received on this auspicious day.

He is known as the ‘Tragedy King of Bollywood’, Dilip Kumar has given memorable and amazing performances in films such as “Andaz”, ‘Aan’, ‘Madhumati’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. Dilip Kumar, who made his big-screen debut with 1944 film “Jwar Bhata”. He is one of the most celebrated stars of Hindi cinema. Last year on his 96th birthday, the actor had celebrated only with family and close friends.

He said Celebrations are not important- rather boundless love, affection and prayers have always brought tears of gratitude in his eyes.

The legendary actor’s real name is Muhammad Yusuf Khan, popularly known as Dilip Kumar. He made his debut in 1944 with ‘Jwar Bhata’, produced by Bombay Talkies. His rich filmography and lasting on-screen performances earned him the title of ‘Tragedy King’ and ‘The First Khan’.

He was born to Ayesha Begum and Lala Ghulam Sarwar Ali Khan on December 11, 1922, at Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar, the present-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. In his entire career spanning almost 5 decades, he worked in 65 movies.

Films like Ram Aur Shyam, Gunga Jamuna, Mughal-e-Azam, Andaz, Babul, Daag, Devdas, Azaad, Naya Daur, Yahudi, Madhumati, Kohinoor, Deedar and Aan amongst various others made him the biggest superstar ever.

After a brief vacation, he returned to the silver screen with Kranti in 1981 and was once again loved by the audience.

In his renowned journey, Dilip Kumar has won as many as nine Filmfare Awards and is the first recipient of the Filmfare Best Actor Award in the year 1954.

He got married to the very beautiful actress Saira Banu in 1966.

In 1991, Dilip Kumar was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions towards Indian cinema. In 1994, he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

In 1998, the Government of Pakistan honoured him with its highest civilian honour, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

He is one of the finest actors Bollywood has ever witnessed and there’ll never be a replacement who can take his place. He has been fighting age-related illnesses like a warrior and we are only hoping for many more years for our favourite star.
