It is the inborn characteristic of women (stereotype), so if women mental health goes bad then indirectly it will be affecting many things simultaneously. Hence, a woman has to remain mentally strong and if women get addicted then she should try every possible method to get away from its grab. An addict can never be healthy or happy. Addiction is like cutting one’s own feet with an axe. Alcohol numbs the nerves and makes them sleepy. The nervous system including the sensory nerves becomes action there is a lack of vitality and the addicts slowly and gradually surrender moving on the path to self-destruction. Family and social life also are affected. This is only the reason for the increasing crime rates in society.

But studies also reported that Women quitting alcohol had improved their mental health many times. Researchers had reported recently in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) that quitting alcohol will keep women cognitively sound and healthy.

Herbert Pang, one of the study co-authors and an assistant professor at the School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong, said with respect to moderate drinking the risks and benefits are not very clear, but one thing is sure, quitting alcohol will definitely keep women calm, cool and peaceful.

Quitting alcohol was linked to a positive change in mental well-being in both Chinese and American study populations.

Dr. Ni said the “Global alcohol utilization is likely to continue to increase unless the effective approach is applied.

If one thinks that drinking alcohol or taking just one or two pegs is normal and will not harm the health, then sorry, it is a wrong misconception. It is found that quitting alcohol is the best habit which can improve mental health, especially for women. So ladies, please motivate yourself for non-alcoholic drinks, mocktails and try quitting alcohols completely.

Generally, it is said that a minimum of 14 drinks per week for men and seven or less than seven drinks per week for women affects mental health. So, drinking and excessive drinking is bad for both men and women. Therefore, one should avoid as much as they can.

A senior consultant of Jaypee Hospital, Mrityam Kumar Das, said: “alcohol affects the nervous system and makes it slow and that is the reason the mood starts to distort, because of the reduced level of serotonin in our brain”. He further mentioned that its regular consumption would change the chemistry of the brain which could lead to deterioration of mental health. So quitting alcohol is only the remedy to get rid of ill mental health.

It was also estimated that if a 40-year-old drinking two glasses of wine a day can die two years earlier and was associated with a higher risk of stroke, fatal aneurysm and heart failure.
