Explosion at Battery Factory in West Delhi: Workers Trapped in Fire

Today in Delhi, in the early hours of Thursday (02.01.2020), a fire had broken out in a battery manufacturing factory building and parts of it collapsed due to fire Incident in West Delhi‘s Peeragarhi industrial area near Paschim Vihar.

A call was received around 4 a.m. at Delhi Fire Services (DFS), alarming about a fire at a factory in the Udyog Nagar area of Peeragarhi. Seven fire engines were immediately rushed to the spot. But the fire spread out due to the explosion of the batteries was worse. A portion of the building also collapsed due to the blast, following which several workers and fire personnel got gripped inside. At 9 am, an explosion was suspected from an overheated battery tore the rear of the building, which brought down the building structure.

35 fire tenders were trying to control the fire. At least 14 people, including 13 firefighters were injured; one of the firefighters are reported to be severely injured in the fire Incident in West Delhi.

The rescue operation continued till afternoon in a four-story building, including a basement.

In visuals, black smoke is seen catching the wind out from the factory. The saviors said they are moving ahead with extreme caution as the smoke from the batteries is toxic. Though, they had removed inflammable material from the building. Delhi News said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also revealed that he is closely monitoring the situation. He had also tweeted: “Very sad to hear this. I’m closely monitoring the situation. The fire personnel is trying their best. Praying for the safety of those trapped,”.
