Actress Deepika Padukone is the only Indian actress to be featured in Davos 2020 winners list. She has been honored by the 26th Annual Crystal Award for raising mental health awareness. The winners would be honored during the opening session of the WEF (World Economic Forum) Annual Meeting 2020 at Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, on January 20, 2020. Sir David Attenborough, Margaret Atwood, Sir Elton John, and Shah Rukh Khan are among the previous recipients of the Crystal Award.
Deepika said, more than 300 million people are suffering from the illness of depression, which is the leading cause of ill health and disability in the world today and this is the major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.
It is now very clear that we need to seriously look upon it and bring out an invisible and overlooked health and social burden. She felt very humbled and deeply honored to be chosen for this year’s 2020 Crystal Award and dedicated this award to the millions around the world who experience stress, anxiety, depression, and other forms of mental illness. In addition to Deepika, artist Theaster Gates and choreographer Jin Xing have also been felicitated with the Annual Crystal Award.
Padukone had already been speaking her opinion on the importance of mental health through her foundation ‘The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF) since June 2015.’
Through her program, the actor had been launching nationwide awareness as well as various campaigns. The foundation has been raising awareness about mental adolescent mental health disorders and also organizes training sessions, research and lecture series that feature some of the most renowned thinkers and achievers.
On the work front, Deepika will be soon seen in the Meghna Gulzar-directed “Chhapaak”. This film signifies the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Who was attacked supposedly by a rejected lover in 2005 at the age of 15? The trailer of the film was recently released and attracted a lot of appreciation. It is also starring Vikrant Massey in the lead role. Chhapaak is expected to release on January 10, 2020.
Deepika will also be seen in Kabir Khan’s ’83 as cricketer Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev. The film is about the historic 1983 cricket World Cup won by India and stars Ranveer Singh is in the lead role. The film is expected to release on April 10, 2020.
